“As has been the case throughout this devastating pandemic, our key focus has to be protecting the people and communities of Birmingham from the risks posed by Covid-19. Birmingham and the West Midlands will only get out of these tough measures if we all continue to follow the rules and we must all continue to play our part to keep our families, friends and neighbours safe."

Lockdown restrictions relaxed during Christmas period

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced new Christmas restrictions, where three households can mix from 23 to 27 December in the UK.

Households must form what is called a 'Christmas Bubble', with people from no more than three households. You can only be in one bubble and this cannot be changed.

You will only be permitted to meet your Christmas bubble in private homes, gardens, outdoor spaces and places of worship.

There is an exemption to that if you are already in a bubble - you can mix with two other households.
