Jack Grealish and James Chester were on target to earn their side a crucial three points.

But despite the victory, Smith believes Villa's stars should be shining brighter.

"We were comfortable winners," he [told the club website](https://www.avfc.co.uk/News/2018/11/02/the-boss-smith-bolton-wanderers?ref=birminghameastside.co.uk). "But I expect more.

"I thought we were average, to be honest. We got a good win, after a good start.

"There was another spell in there that really showed me what these players can do when they have a bit of confidence in them.

"But we were a bit loose at times and awarded Bolton several big chances."
