Bin collections have failed to happen in Birmingham and Coventry.

Over the holiday season, the council [announced adjustments](https://www.coventry.gov.uk/strikeaction?ref=birminghameastside.co.uk)to its typical collection schedule, with some houses missing out on rubbish pickup.

Separately, the Birmingham Council had to suspend round for collection due to absences caused by the Omicron variant.

Bin collector drivers in Coventry, represented by the union Unite, went on strike over Christmas when the council refused to increase wages.

Unite Convenor, Hayden Jones, said on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/UniteWestMids/status/1478697773159624708?ref=birminghameastside.co.uk): "We have a Labour council here saying we are very well paid. Well, I'm telling you we're not. Otherwise, we wouldn't be out on strike. We've tried to resolve this situation now for almost two years with the employer".

He added: "What I would say is we were the heroes during the pandemic and now we're brought down to the villains by Coventry City Council".

Coventry City Council [has responded](https://www.coventry.gov.uk/news/article/4138/council%5Fresponse%5Fto%5Funite%5Fclaims?ref=birminghameastside.co.uk) to Unite claims saying that it "Remains committed to resolving the ongoing issues Unite have raised with us. That has not, and will not, change".
